Planning for the future, experiencing life changes and gaining skills and knowledge for independence is an important time in any young person’s life. But if you also have additional support needs, and receive support from social care, education, and health services, you may require some specific planning, exploration and agreement on a future plan which can be shared with the services that support you.
Preparing young people for adulthood is everyone’s responsibility, but there is more formal involvement and support available from the Preparing for Adulthood Team for 14 to 18 year olds.
As well as support and advice on independent living, participating in society, managing your health or money, the Youth Hub team can help you think and plan your education and employment. For example, what sort of job would you like to do? What courses could help you get that job?
You could choose to prepare for work with an apprenticeship, traineeship or supported internship. Or you can combine your learning with employment (or self-employment) or volunteering for 20 hours or more a week.
